Carbondale, Colorado welcomes Ride the Rockies this weekend. Hardy road bicycle riders arrive Saturday and head out on an a 50 mile ride to Aspen, Colorado on Sunday, June 12. The route will take riders uphill to Missouri Heights and then back down into the Roaring Fork Valley. Riders will take the Rio Grande Trail to Aspen. With an elevation gain of 4,253 feet over 50 miles, hats off the these riders! From Aspen, riders will head out to Breckenridge over Independence Pass – speaking of elevation gain.
Residents of Aspen Glen have easy access to the Rio Grande Trail. Head north, the trail leads to Glenwood Springs, Head south, the trail leads to Carbondale, Basalt, Woody Creek and Aspen Colorado. The trail corridor follows an railway bed and sections of the trail follow the Roaring Fork River, making it one of the most scenic town to town trails.
